15th December 2008, Annual Ferguson Cup Night. C.F.O. R. Ditmer and Q.F.F. D. King win the Ferguson Cup (again). We dont just let Ross win cause he is the chief, he still has quite a bit of pace and skill from his competition running days. Well done to Dave and Ross.

19th October 2008, The inaugural resurrection of the annual cricket match between the Kaiapoi Fire Brigade and the Rangiora Fire Brigade. With the weather great, Rangiora went into bat first and scored a total of 87 runs. Kaiapoi rose to the challenge to win the run chase and the game, even being able to withstand Rangioras secret weapon, the Beige Brigadier and his fantastic white legs. Well done to Kaiapoi.

20th September 2008, Our annual honours night had a different twist, with the employers that let their staff away from their work during working hours being recognised with the newly developed employer recognition programme. The issuing of the pack to each employer was done by C.F.O. Ditmer. This was very well received by the employers, as they can now see added benefits to their companies by employing volunteer firefighters.

31st July 2008, This has been one of the busiest days the Brigade has seen for years, with the rapidly rising water levels in the town wreaking havoc on stormwater systems and low level housing. A great effort from our team to ensure that we were able to keep all vehicles full crewed and responding for the 24 hour period.

15th June 2008, The Annual Mid Canterbury Fire Brigades Sub Association Combat Challenge held in Lincoln. We had three competitors travel to Lincoln to compete. The day was fantastic, with the weather great and the quality of running was amazing(1min32sec the fastest time on the course). Eagle came third in the open male guest category with a 1min57sec.

As per normal whenever anything is organised someone always puts a spanner in the works, which is what happened when we turned out to a MVA 15 minutes before we were due to start. This didnt stop it being a great meeting, with some guest speakers from the D.O.C. Fire department, Waimakariri Rural Fire Force and St John Ambulance. Once again this event has grown, with our team raising over $2,200 dollars towards the total of $90,000, which is significantly higher than the $50,000 raised last year. We are very proud to say that our relay team came in fourth place (making it the quickest of the South Island teams), and our fastest firefighter being FF H.Fraser, with an impressive 12 minutes 47 seconds, which put him 14th place out of 127 in the mens donned and started category.
